personality , Almost anyone that has ever been "close" to Marcus will tell you that he's a very complex man- and certainly not in the same way that his brothers can be at times. It would be a lie to say Marcus has never 'felt' emotion, however, it wouldn't be too farfetch'd to say he's never truly 'expressed' certain emotions. Of course, he'll be the first to let someone know when he's irritated, bored or, even, thrilled. That being said, as far as some of the more 'complex' emotions go, not even those close to him have had the pleasure of witnessing. Which is where his complexity comes in. It's very hard to get close to him and, really, saying he's a closed book would be an understatement.
His sense of loyalty isn't that strong and, really, never has been. He only has a 'strong' sense of loyalty to those he feels deserve such respect- and when it comes to such people, he has a strong sense of both loyalty and respect. Everyone else he knows, however, typically serve a purpose that helps himself more than it helps them- if it helps them at all. Selflessness is definitely not a trait the eldest Doom is known for and the only time he's ever displayed even a hint of the trait was through handing money over to charities, which was more or less done to clear his name.
Many people who know the Doom's well have taken to saying that Marcus just doesn't care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get his way and they wouldn't be wrong, either. He's always been ambitious, knowing what he wants before he ever even tries to obtain it. In his mind, his goals are a top priority and he will stop at nothing to reach them. Cunning and manipulative are often both words used to describe him, two of the traits that, inevitable, landed him in Slytherin. He believes that no situation is impossible to get out of if you have wit and a ready mind. He has almost always been able to squeeze his way out of rough situations- with only a few exceptions.
Despite managing to hold himself together in social situations and during other important occasions, Marcus has a very dangerous temper. The helpers at the manor have never been able to figure out if he's just better at controling it, or better at holding it in. It would probably be the former. Once one has lost his respect, it remains gone for good. He holds grudges and is very good at letting one know when a grudge is being held. He rarely will make contact with the person, though, finding that fear is a much better punishment. He's always found it amazing the lengths a person will go through when they feel their life is in danger. If giving the chance, though, he would do away with many of those he holds grudges against- and has. So the fear isn't unneeded. .

boggarts , While most Wizards of Marcus' status would have material fears, Marcus's biggest fear isn't losing all his money, or failing to restore his name, or even never having an heir. Marcus' boggarts tend to actually take the form of a teeth bearing, menacing dog. While he can often be around dogs who aren't raising their hackles, he's rather uncomfortable around them, and if so much as a growl escapes their throat, he will panic.
flaws , + Scars running up and down his left arm from when he was attacked by a dog. He finds them to be rather ugly and will do anything to hide them. Even if it means wearing long sleeves in the dead of the Summer.
+ He takes cleanliness to an extreme. He is a clean freak to the point of sometimes being rather "ocd" about cleanliness. If so much as one thing is out of place, he'll lose his temper over it and one smudge will make him demand the maids and the house elf to clean the manor top to bottom.
+ Despite being able to hold himself in most situations, his temper can sometimes be a flaw, getting the better of him sometimes. He has very little patience and sometimes isn't afraid to let it be known.
what about the story of your spiffy life ?
history , Being the oldest of the three Doom sons, it was never a secret that Marcus was the most 'indulged'. Saying that he grew up spoiled rotten definitely wouldn't be under exaggerating how the oldest Doom grew up. It never mattered what he wanted, if he demanded something- even if on an impulse- it was quickly given to him. Sometimes he would demand things that were quite impossible for his parents to obtain just to prove to his brothers that they really would do anything for him. There were times he was tempted to ask them to move the moon, just to see if they'd try. And it goes without saying, that being the favorite certainly had its advantages. Typically, even when he was in the wrong, the blame was rarely ever placed on him.
Despite being spoiled to the core, Marcus was no exception from his parents often neglectful ways. Just like both his younger brothers, he was often left home alone with the help for hours- sometimes, even, days- at a time. Even though he was left alone with the help, however, he was usually unattended to for reasons unknown to the outside world. Of course, outside the manor the help would never dare speak an ill word of any of the Doom children- let alone the eldest and most favored- however, within the walls of the manor, words were whispered. The house elf- despite having to quite frequently punish himself for doing so- also often mumbled words about Marcus. Of course his parents never knew what happened to the multitudes of animals they were constantly buying him. They were never around to know.
When Jonathan was born, naturally, attention turned away from Marcus for quite some time. When his parents actually were home, they spent most of their time with the new arrival and like many children his age would've been, Marcus grew jealous. That was around the time his temper first began to show, often taking his jealousy out on the younger, once going as far as shoving him off their parents bed. Even then they pinned it on simple sibling rivalry. Though he tried to steal his parents attention from Jon when they were home, when they weren't, he preferred to spend his time alone even when he was young, spending most of his time shut up in his room.
He got his first big pet when he was five, after begging his parents for a dog. His parents bought home a border collie and for three years, the dog accompanied Marcus everywhere he went. The dog displayed obvious signs of aggression however, when one of the maids tried to warn his parents, it only succeeded in her losing her job. When Marcus was eight and his parents had company over, the dog attacked one of their friends and snapped at Marcus when he tried to grab his dog after being told to by his mother. He was bit on the arm a few times before the dog realized what he was doing and backed down. No one but the help, Jonathan and his parents know what became of the dog and they never said a thing about it outside the manor.
Marcus' youngest brother was born when he was ten, only months before his eleventh birthday and his first year of Hogwarts. So, naturally, he wasn't around the youngest much. It definitely came as no surprise when he was sorted into Slytherin, having come from a rather long line of Slytherins. As soon as he got a wand and started learning how to use it, he started practicing curses and hexes for fun. On rats in the dungeons, on fish in the lake... on students that he knew wouldn't tell on him. Of course, when he was young, the hexes and curses were simple ones that anyone his age could've performed, but he always took to finding the most creative ways to use them.
Unlike Marcus' sorting, Jonathans did come as a surprise when he was sorted into Hufflepuff. The already pretty strong 'sibling rivalry' was fueled by the sorting. From that point on, he made sure to make the others life miserable, and he did. As soon as he discovered the Room of Requirement, he took to taking the other there for what he liked to call "Practice Sessions". Whenever he discovered a new curse, he'd seek his brother out and take him there. Sometimes he'd take other Slytherins, sometimes he'd go by himself. The older he got, the worse the curses got, naturally. Even though Marcus couldn't use magic outside of school for obvious reasons, he made sure his brothers home life wasn't any better. Though Lloyd was young, the first chance Marcus got, he took to winning the boy over, while previously Lloyd and Jon had gotten along, often hiding from Marcus with each other, afraid of what he'd do next. Of course, though, it was easy for Marcus to win Lloyd over because of his age and as soon as he did, reaching Jon at home became easier.
The older Jon got, though, the smarter he seemed to get. He began moving through Hogwarts only in large groups of friends and was rarely ever "home" when they were home. That didn't stop Marcus, though. He'd already discovered by that point that where there was a will, there was a way. During his last year at Hogwarts, he began to 'practice' much worse curses. That year was the first time he'd used the Crutiaus curse and the first time his brother felt one. He graduated with decent grades (some better than others, naturally) but didn't jump right into a career, seeing no reason to being the Doom heir. Shortly after graduation, he married Cassandra Asger. The marriage had been arranged and, therefore, he didn't protest it.
Not long after his graduation, he lost his temper at Lloyd and gave him a Sectumsempra to the face. Quite, literally. For the next several months, the family was divided, even while in public which was until that point, rare for the Doom name. Under their mothers influence, both Jonathan and Lloyd pressed charges against their brother and under no ones influence but his own, he fought back. The case brought a lot of family secrets to light and for a while, they were in the spotlight, their glory naturally failing every time Jon, Lloyd or their mother spoke a word. During the entire situation, however, both Marcus and their father seemed to remain calm to the public eye, rarely ever uttering a word about what was going on. Of course, it wasn't quite the same at home. Almost a year into the case, charges were 'mysteriously' dropped after both brothers were threatened and their mother backed down in defeat. The damage, however, had already been done.
When Jon was disowned, Marcus couldn't have been more thrilled (except, of course, if the other were actually 'gone'), personally blasting him off the family tree himself. By the time Marcus was twenty-eight, he proved that Lloyd's suspicions about him being willing to do anything if it helped him were proven to be true. Anxious to finally inherit all of the fortune and take over the company, Marcus worked out a 'plan' with his father. Of course, the other didn't know the plan would probably involve his death. Being skilled in potions, it didn't take him long to make a good enough Polyjuice potion to put the plan into motion. He made the switch without anyone noticing and though many people thought he died that night, it was really his father who had.
Not long after leaving, he returned to the manor one last time before his trip to America. He'd found out months before that his and Cassandra's marriage had only been arranged to curb her familys bankruptsy and, therefore, he took care of that problem, too. Only hours later, he left for America to hunt and study dragons. A trip that he kept extending because (though he'd rarely admit it) he actually enjoyed the trip (and especially the hunt). He returned on his twenty-ninth birthday and, of course, before then, had inherited everything.
