POWERS
Name: Tiffany Bellefleur
Age: 16
Ability: Occlumency / Legilimency
Sample: Tiffany had been practicing for two years now, on her own, and very much in secret. Once she had completely made up her mind about becoming a spy for the Resistance, she knew she would need to know occlumency for her own protection. She would not last long if her true intentions were exposed through her mind, after all. Set to her task, she scoured the library, finding every book that might help her delve into the subjects of both occlumency and legilimency. Having read all of the books at least once, she was now set on very careful practice runs. Unfortunately, she had no partner, as she could trust no one with the idea of her secret lessons.
She was forced to practice legilimency in painstaking detail, so that she knew the ways that someone might try to attack her own mind. In this way she would be able to prepare her defenses much more thoroughly than she would have without hands on experience. Still a novice, she relied on her wand, and the incantation spell. She did so mostly when in the Slytherin common room, as she would tonight, from a nondescript corner. Choosing a young first year sitting not too far from her, and making sure no one was watching, she lightly moved her wand within her robes and whispered, “Legilimency!”
Immediately she was able to navigate her way through the layers of the girl’s mind, focusing on whether or not the words coming out of her mouths were truth or lies. At the same time she began to feel her feelings and emotions, piecing her brain together little by little.
“I thought your presentation today in Charms was amazing,” her voice chimed from across the room. Lie. Jealousy. “And yes, Conner was so cute.” Truth. Longing.
It was an arduous task, but it was becoming easier, regardless with how much of her energy it consumed. She felt the way the girl’s emotions bounced up and down with her words, and felt even those she was hiding. With just a little more will power she could alter them, bending them just so much… She was snapped out of her concentration in an instant, blinking once to stifle the sensation. She never could actually force actions onto people… She wished she had a real teacher to help her become stronger at this. Only for the sake of learning, of course. She always felt bad after the fact, after all, she wouldn’t want someone intruding on her own personal thoughts.
Occlumency came right after her practices in legilimency, when the experience was still fresh. She retreated to her personal dormitory for this, lying on her bed to appear as if she were sleeping. She did not know exactly how good she was at it, as she had no one to peek inside her brain to actually tell her. Instead, she pretended someone was doing to her exactly what she had done to the first year. She cleared her mind, leaving it blank and empty, defending against her unseen attacker. Afterwards, she practiced repressing her pro Resistance feelings, as she knew she would have to if she ever successfully became a spy.
This too was a tiring process, but Tiffany was determined, and she made sure to follow the routine at least thrice weekly.
Ability: Apparition
Sample: It was the holidays, once again, and Tiffany was holed up in her childhood room, in her family mansion. Much too large and ridiculously decorated, it was almost becoming a headache to look at as time went on. Gold and emerald was everywhere, just as at school, and she couldn’t imagine being forced to sit here for another day. She absolutely had to escape. It came to her then, very suddenly, and she could have smacked herself for not thinking of it before. She stood up, smiling, and touched her wand, closing her eyes.
Still new at this, she had to concentrate carefully, as she did not want to experience any kind of splinching. Though she did not yet have her license, since she wasn’t seventeen, she had taken the classes nonetheless at school, and remembered her lessons clearly. She recalled the three D’s, destination, determination, and deliberation, bringing them to the forefront of her mind. Destination, Herrod’s Department Store, roof. Determination, anything to get out of this room. Deliberation, not haste. She breathed deeply in and out, once, and touched the end of her wand, before her body disappeared in a small puff of white smoke, a loud pop sounding throughout the space she once occupied.
She felt nauseous, flying, and disembodied, all in one moment, and in the next she felt one hundred percent normal again. She briefly wondered if she would ever get used to that disconcerting feeling, but quickly forgot those troubles as she glanced around her new position. She had avoided any muggle sightings, even in one of the busiest areas of London, having chosen to arrive in a shadowed area of the roof of her destination. Casually walking towards the escalators, she prepared herself for a day full of shopping and entertainment. In retrospect, she realized she could have just taken the Tube there and avoided all of the theatrics. But really, where was the fun in that?
